Doom Eternal PC requires a GTX 1060 equivalent to run (Image credit: id Software) Doom Eternal is getting closer and closer by the day, and we finally know what the PC requirements and specs are. Someone posted a link to a preview article about Doom Eternal and they listed the system requirements. They said they were at the Bethesda Event where they.

You could still game on old hardware as long as you upgraded the graphics card and even graphics cards are getting more and more life in them. Where as a high end Pentium 4 HT was completely unusable for low spec gaming even compared to the weakest core 2 duo in modern games in the vista era with very few runable games, unreal touranment 3, Fear 2, Halo 2 P.C. What ever big p.c. Games there were at the time all ran like shit on even a high end dual thread P4 HT. Same games ran fine on my mid range pentium dual core with a measly 2ghz clock speed per core. The same was not true for the next few generations. I could still run games on my core 2 quad fine 2-3 cpu generations later on high with a decent graphics card.
I didn't replace that system till Haswell which I am still useing now 6 years later and it might not be a bottle neck 2 years from now, Thats 12 years on just 2 architecture upgrades gaming and general computing are just not requiring the upgrades provided with new cpu technology. Where as before especially when I was a kid cpu hardware was becoming useless by the year especially mid spec systems. My low end P.C. From 1999 or 2000 with a intel celeron 667 shited on high end computers from 1998. By 2002 that system was a dinosaur. Graphic cards also took huge jumps in performance each generation back then. A pentium 4 couldn't even run windows vista well, cpu usage would be through the roof.
I didn't mind vista because I started vista on a pentium dual core e2180 with 2 gigs of ddr2 ram. Ram requirements also haven't sky rocketed like they used to 8-16 gigs is all you need still for gaming. Devs aren't trying to make absurd minimums it just the minimums are now what back in the day recommended used to be to get a smooth experience. We don't have that crysis any more where top graphics cards a year after the game came out can't max it at 60 fps. It was a extremely expensive graphics card but the Titan Z can still max games today at 1440p its 6 years old, The 7950GX2 was dead 2 years later by 2008, If am wrong it was super dead when nvidia released the 400 series in early 2010.
We’ve come a long way since I first played Doom on some IBM Thinkpad type thing loading off of a very noisy floppy disc. Doom has been a game that’s matured throughout my own gaming history. Now we’re finally getting to the final details of Doom Eternal as the launch date approaches.
Bethesda and id has already said they’re going to be pushing the latest Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to their limits, which in all honestly can’t be that hard these days. However, can they do the same for PC?
Doom Eternal
The new system requirements show that the game is a bit harder to run compared to the 2016 game, but that’s to be expected. Of course, it also uses their latest idTech 7 engine too.
It looks like a modern i5 or Ryzen CPU with a GTX 970/1060 or Radeon 290/470 is needed as a minimum. It doesn’t say it, but I’m pretty certain that’ll be 1080p with normal settings. For a more full-fat experience, you’ll need a good mid-to-high-end Intel i7 or Ryzen 7 CPU such as the 1800X. Even then, you’ll want a GTX 1080, RTX 2060, or RX56. However, I’m sure a 1660 Ti or 5600 XT would net similar results.
Beyond that would be 4K, and I can bet you’ll just want to throw the best graphics card you can at that. RTX 2080 and above, or the top end AMD card.
